Soirée des Masques

At the close of the first Soirée des Masques, the awards ceremony for Quebecois theatre, Roy Dupuis took to the stage to pay tribute to a number of people, seated in the front row of the balcony, who had made significant contributions to the foundation of theatre in Quebec.
Roy's script was penned by his friend Dominic Champagne, and was based on a speech by Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand.

At this time, some critics had been commenting on Roy's bad diction as evidenced in his TV performances, where he spoke in a naturalistic way in an Abitibi accent.  His speech here was proof that, when the occasion demanded, he could act with perfect diction.
