The RDO Walking Tour was originally inspired by the 1998 article in American Way, Roy Dupuis' Montreal. Here he did a great selling job on some of his favourite site, shops and restaurants in the city. Seven years on, when asked, he insists he'd "rather go sailing" than hang out in the city even if he could go around unrecognised, so don't count on bumping into him at any of his old haunts.

However, this short trip along and around Rue St-Denis encompasses not only these past recommendations, but also several theatre and film references compiled through building the RDO information base and visiting Montreal on several occasions.

While taking the tour you will, of course, have the opportunity to appreciate the architecture of the typical Montreal house, to admire the occasional glimpse of the ultra-modern skyline of the business centre, and to marvel at the variety and quirkiness of the shops in the area. Depending on what Roy's up to when you take the tour, you may even be lucky enough to be confronted by his face on billboards throughout the métro (a strangely satisfying, if disconcerting, experience!).

Whatever the circumstances, enjoy this little homage to our favourite actor, whose artistic roots were certainly developed along the route you'll be following.

How does it work?
The RDO Walking Tour consists of 31 sights (marked 1 - 31) on the basic tour, plus 5 optional additions (marked a - e) to include if you've got the time and the energy . It's available for free download to all Roy Dupuis fans in printer friendly PDF format, so you can carry it with you on the tour.
Because the tour goes from north to south, all published Montreal maps are upside down! The RDO Walking Tour map is unique as it points in the direction of travel, so right is right and left is left! (Is this just a girl thing?)

How long does it take?
Tricky question. On a cool evening, with no distractions, you can do the basic tour in around two to three hours. Add blistering summer weather, a few friends, photo opportunities, refreshment breaks and the seductive attraction of the shops ... well, it's up to you.

The small print
The current version of the RDO Walking Tour is summer 2005. Details may change! If you find anything that's no longer correct, please contact us through the site. Updated photographs showing the change would be greatly appreciated.
