Photos from 1999 were taken by Stéphane Lévesque for Granby Autodrome.

Yvon Larrivee from Autodrome Granby has graciously shared not only information about the Defi-Vision race Roy participated Friday 18th June 1999 to raise funds for Foundation Mira, but he also sent Francoise some photos to share with Roy fans and she in turn has sent them to me for you to enjoy here.

This is Roy's 6th year participating in the race and this year he and his driver, Johanne Gendron, were in first place at one time during the race, but apparently the turns slowed them down.  Still, they did come in a very respectable 12th out of 32 drivers.   That's our boy!!!!  :)

Most importantly of all, they had a record crowd this year of almost 7,000 people and raised 75,000$ Canadian funds for Mira. They were hoping to raise 70,000$ and were very pleased to exceed that amount.

If you're unfamiliar with the Defi-Vision race, it's held each June at the Autodrome Granby stock car track in Granby, Quebec (Eastern Townships, exit 68 of highway 10, about halfway between Montreal and Sherbrooke). The drivers are blind and are guided by co-pilots who are usually stars from radio and television. Some of this year's co-pilots were Chantal Francke, Jean-Rene Dufort, Ric Salvail, Mario St-Amand, Serge Meunier, Benoit Johnson, and Roy Dupuis.

As well as the two pictures exclusive to this website, Yvon has now given permission to put up the two photos previously on the Autodrome Granby webpage (one of Roy and Johanne & one of all the drivers and their co-pilots) as well as sending extra pictures from both this year and last year. If you visit the website you can also click on "Commentaire de Yvon" and get a recap of the Defi-Vision race.   If you click on "English" first, you can scroll down past Yvon's French commentary and read it in English.

A special thanks goes to Yvon for his willingness to share with Roy's fans and Mira supporters who otherwise wouldn't have known the details and outcome of the race.
