Star Système

6th & 13th November 2004

6 November 2004

3 appearances in one issue!

Feature on men’s fashion:  Bearded or not

Male stars try several looks before finding the right one. Bearded or not? A choice has to be made … although the trend is for a little short beard.

Roy Dupuis – always sexy

He is without a doubt Quebec’s sexiest actor. In Séraphin, Roy Dupuis was irresistible with his 3-day beard. He embodied virile manhood to perfection; hirsute and masculine. But he can also alter his appearance.  In more intense films where he has to express deep feelings, Roy shaves his beard and becomes a more sensitive person. Anyway, he’s our sweetheart and we love him just as he is!

Feature on couples : Will these couples survive the year?

Life isn’t a bed of roses for the stars. They are subjected to external pressures which sometimes lead to taking very difficult decisions concerning their love lives. The longevity of these young show-biz couples is often reduced. How many of these will last till the end of the year? Star Système gives you its predictions.

Céline and Roy : Quiet strength

Certainly the most discrete couple in Quebec, Céline Bonnier and Roy Dupuis don’t seek the spotlight in their private life. Even so, they’ve had their difficult moments, especially at the time when Roy was involved in the Nikita series in Toronto. Nowadays they enjoy working together, like in Monica la Mitraille. They have also just renovated an old house (dated 1840) where they intend raising a large family, with lots of children … Céline and Roy are ordinary, well-grounded people, who simply have an extraordinary career.

Verdict: Living on the outside of show-business protects them against temptation and rumour. This is a couple made to last, and bringing up a family will only reinforce it. An exemplary couple!

Feature : The Musts of the week

Cinema must see – Failing Memory

Roy Dupuis stars in a psychological thriller which is like a jigsaw puzzle. In Mémoires affectives, Francis Leclerc’s second film, the actor plays Alexandre Tourneur, who, after an accident, loses his memory. The character tries to put the pieces back together and wants to understand what has happened to him. But knowing the whole truth is not good. Alexandre finds himself in the middle of an existential quest and encounters problems that aren’t easy to resolve. Mémoires affectives, by Francis Leclerc, with Roy Dupuis, Nathalie Coupal and Rosa Zacharie. In cinemas from Friday 29 October.

My Rock’n’Roll Years are behind me

Since last weekend we’ve once again been able to examine le beau Roy on the big screen in Mémoires affectives. The actor confides that he intends to give up smoking soon, or at least cut down on his cigarette consumption, and that he has taken up hockey again. All told, he seems in great form.

In Mémoires affectives he brilliantly plays the role of Alexandre Tourneur, a vet who works in a little village and who is the victim of an accident. The character is introverted, emotionally wounded. “He is special in the sense that he comes out of the coma having forgotten who he was. I met people how had come out of a coma; some had forgotten a part of their life. I also spoke with a specialist who worked with people in a comatose state. I learned that no-one comes out of this state in the same way.”

It’s well known that Roy Dupuis isn’t particularly fond of interviews, but in this case he took part in the promotional campaign for the film which he hopes as many people as possible will go to see. “Talking about a film that is important to me is a pleasure. I think that Mémoires affectives is important, daring, and has a different vision.”  All the same, although the actor makes himself available to journalists to talk about it, many aren’t able to refrain from – as in the Tout le monde en parle programme -  harking back to his past and to the rather more rock’n’roll years.

It seems as though that was quite some time ago. I haven’t drunk for 10 years. For me, all that’s a long way back! I don’t hate talking about it, because there may be people in this same situation, and I [can] explain how I got myself out of it, or rather how I decided to change my lifestyle."
