How can you forget Emilie Bordeleau? Her passionate love for the handsome Ovila warmed our winter of 1991, and these last weeks the flames of this passion have been rekindled anew in the series Blanche. Then, after a last face-to-face encounter, the brave teacher was laid to rest one rainy day. Marina Orsini tells us how she spent the last moments of Emilie’s life.

Marina, what did you feel as you watched the scenes of Emilie’s burial?

I was very moved by the images of the director Charles Binamé. They honoured the great woman that was Emilie Bordeleau. Moreover, I loved the emphasis on my pride in the series Blanche. Different from Filles de Caleb, she also had a great beauty, a great sensitivity.

Tell me, what has fundamentally changed in Emilie, as she is seen in Blanche?

Wisdom and calm play a large part in her life. As a result her words are different, more mature. For example, in the last meeting with Ovila, her conversation reflects very well the passage of time on her. One feels that in the end she was at peace with herself.

When Emilie danced with Ovila at Alice’s wedding it was in a way a lovers’ ‘last waltz’

Exactly. I think that this dance encapsulated the twenty hours that the viewers spent with Ovila and Emilie, three years ago. The eyes, the music, the movements, the camera angles; all perfect without Roy and I having to say a word to each other.

After this famous dance, Ovila and Emilie shared a last night of love. In the early morning Emilie asked her handsome Ovila never to try to see her again. Where did she find this strength?

The years spent alone in Saint-Tite had led Emilie to become realistic regarding Ovila’s place in her life. When she said, "We are perhaps older, but not wiser …", she was expressing her deepest thoughts. Despite everything, you must understand that he is the only man she ever loved. In fact, Emilie will always love Ovila.

How was the filming of this last scene between Roy Dupuis and yourself?

It was very touching and comfortable at the same time, for it was not only the two characters who had found each other again, but also the two actors. I felt that Roy and I also knew each other very well during this last filming; there was never any barrier between us. We relished to the full the chance to be able to accompany to the end of their lives two characters who signify so much to us.

What were, in your opinion, the most beautiful moments of this love which united Ovila and Emilie?

Certainly the first bursts of passion were for me the most beautiful moments, but I also have a vivid memory of the love that united them when everything began to go wrong for them. Despite all their misfortune, the two of them kept this thirst for one another.

Finally, what memory do you keep of Emilie Bordeleau?

An undying memory. I will always be at a loss to explain all that the name of Emilie signifies for me. It’s so exceptional to be able to give life to a character from adolescence to sixty and more. Thanks to Emilie I feel I have a lifetime’s experience in my suitcase. And what can one say about the public’s affection for this daughter of Caleb Bordeleau, it’s quite simply fantastic…. While her burial scene allows me to turn the page, without doubt Emilie will always live on in my heart.
