The cheque for Mira is for CA$7,000

The St-Raphaël Cup golf tournament

Many entertainers and a crowd of Échos-Vedettes readers take part.

A new golf tournament has just started up. It’s the St-Raphaël Cup, sponsored by the French aperitif, which kicked off on Saturday 27th August at the magnificent brand new St-Raphaël golf course on l’Îlle Bizard. Roy Dupuis and Guy Carbonneau were honorary presidents of the St-Raphaël Tournament, an event which will become a classic.

Unquestionably it was a glorious day and the 140 players, which included several personalities from the worlds of entertainment and business as well as about fifty winners << of an Échos-Vedettes competition>>, were delighted with the beauty of the location and the welcome they were given.

Échos-Vedettes, CFGL and the Journal de Golf pour Amateurs et Professionnels, joined forces with St-Raphaël Apéritif de France and Corby Distilleries to organise this initial tournament which has been declared a success. Corby gave Foundation MIRA a cheque for 7,000 dollars and several sponsors also gave prizes that were greatly appreciated.

Mother Nature played her part, and in brilliant sunshine the Gold team under the captaincy of Roy Dupuis confronted the Red team captained by Guy Carbonneau. The ex-captain of the Canadiens, who was in St-Louis last week, very graciously returned for the tournament in which he’d agreed to participate before the change in his career occurred.

The winning team was the Golds, to the delight of the players concerned and Roy Dupuis who enjoyed himself immensely. The actor was never apart from the little 8-week old puppy named Raphaël. It accompanied Roy for the whole 18 holes and even made off with the ball at the 14th hole. It’s well known that the actor has been something of an ambassador for Foundation MIRA for several years. He adores animals and this was demonstrated undeniably on this day.
