		On receiving his award, Roy said he wished to share it with General Dallaire, and with the people of Rwanda. He also used his acceptance speech as a platform for his views on the global balance of wealth: "I am distressed by over-consumption and the exploitation of natural and human resources by large corporations and certain countries - by pollution also.  It's important that people recognise that most shortages are largely due to the West."
		The occasion was saddened by the death of Roy's mother, Mrs. Ryna Thiffault Dupuis, who had passed away three weeks earlier.
