Clip 1 – previewing the candidates in the ‘Best Film’ category.
Director Francis Leclerc acknowledges the applause, then Patrick Huard commends Roy’s performance. Patrick : A film with the magnificent Roy Dupuis. What an extraordinary performance. Roy bows his head to acknowledge the praise. Patrick : I saw C’est pas moi c’est l’autre. …. Roy ….. why? Roy looks sheepish. Patrick : Never mind, I’ll watch Mémoires affectives again and forget all about it. |

Clip 2 – presenting the Jutra for Best Supporting Actress
Patrick Huard has introduced Roy Dupuis and Jean-Nicholas Verrault as possibly two of the three best looking male actors in Quebec cinema. As they come onto the stage Roy and Patrick have a little discussion that you can’t hear over the music, presumably to establish who the 3rd one is. (No prizes for guessing that the initials might be PH!). Then Patrick has a quiet chat with Roy, which goes something like this : Patrick : You’re up for the Best Actor award this evening? I’m very proud. I’m rather fond of you. You know you were my first screen kiss. Roy : Is that true? Patrick : I could never forget it. Roy : That’s right. It was your first film so it was your first kiss. Yeah, very likely. Patrick : I’m very fond of you. Roy : That’s right – we French kissed. Patrick : Do you have something wrong with your throat? Roy : Yeah. Patrick : Have you been French kissing someone else? Roy : That’s why he’s (Jean-Nicholas) going to do it. With Jean-Nicholas doing all the talking, all Roy has to do is announce is the name of the winner. Unfortunately for him it’s a tie so, with his bad throat, he has to shout the name of the second winner, Sylvie Moreau (Les Aimants), over the applause for Brigitte Lafleur (Elles était cinq). |

Clip 3 – Céline presenting the Jutra for Best Actor
Patrick Huard describes how much Céline taught him when he was filming with her on Monica la mitraille. He introduces her as “my very own academy”. While the clips are being played, all the other actors sit back and relax - Roy looks as though he’s right back there feeling Alexandre’s pain. (Goodness knows what he’ll do if he gets nominated next year for Manners of Dying!). While she’s opening the envelope …. Céline : Well, then. I’m going to kiss … let’s see … As she sees the name on the card a smile breaks out on her face, she shakes her head from side to side, and says very coyly, “Monsieur Roy Dupuis”. Another big smile from him, and a squeeze of Francis Leclerc’s hand as he goes up to the stage. And she gets her kiss. |

Clip 4 – Roy’s acceptance speech
Roy’s acceptance speech is straight to the point, sombrely going through the list of people he wants to share the award with, and commenting on their contribution to the film. They are : Marcel Beaulieu and Francis Leclerc for the script Barbara Shrier for producing (“quite simply an admirable producer”) Steve Asselin for the photography (“who did an outstanding job”) The other members of the cast each of whom he names And finally Francis Leclerc for giving him the part of Alexandre. He is almost lost for words as he pays tribute to him, saying that he is a giant. There’s real emotion in his expression at the end. In contrast to Roy’s and Francis’ solemn acceptance speeches, Barbara Shrier is over the moon with delight. She calls the win … a vote of confidence for Quebecois cinema, for small producers, small crews, small budgets. |
