| Michael's POV Onscreen:
22 minutes |
Returning to the apartment at
night time, so eager is Michael to make love to Nikita, he fails to notice Operations
lurking in the shadows. (Oh Michael, how could you forget the Charity cat?)
Operations needs a favour - they are to get close to and protect his old wartime saviour
Willie Kane, and in return he will grant them 15 days alone together. They move into
Willies squalid block posing as an "ordinary" young couple. When two
heavies set upon Willie Michael blows them away, and later, as Willie is reminiscing about
Vietnam, he is staggered when Michael gives him a wad of money to get himself back on his
feet. Trailing Willie to an opium den, Michael discovers that he is being blackmailed by
the VC commander who wiped out Operations platoon, and Willies past treachery
is revealed. Although Willie gets killed and Operations is prepared to keep his side of
the bargain, Nikita has still not sorted out her feelings about Helmut and they choose to
wait for their time alone. |

Performance Rating
 |
A rather uncharacteristic
episode this. Michaels look is more downmarket than we have ever seen
him. Despite the fact that he has always been the jealous type, he seems totally
unperturbed that Nikita harbours residual feelings for her husband, to the point that she
wont go off on downtime with him. (We tend to forget that she remains Frau Volker to
the end of the series!) And he seems to spend a lot of time sitting listening to other
people, particularly Willie (Stephen McHattie), delivering some pretty good lines. The
story and onscreen time should have offered plenty possibilities, but the overall
performance came over as rather subdued - even bland. |
