#220 had set the scene for the
season finale by reintroducing Carla, who now kidnaps Nikita. Michael anxiously searches
her apartment, then he and Birkoff discover that her implanted tracker is giving false
readings. When she returns with an invented story, Michael knows she is lying. On a
mission in Africa Michael is almost killed in a hail of golden bullets, a signal sent by
Nikitas true captor, Adrian. Under Adrians instructions, Nikita (in a
bizarrely inappropriate backless dress) infiltrates an off-limits area of Section to
retrieve information, but is intercepted by Michael as she is leaving. He questions her
persistently, but Adrian is feeding her an incontrovertible alibi. Adrian proves to Nikita that Operations is working to a
personal political agenda when a South American leader is assassinated while being guarded
by Section One, despite Michael taking out a sniper. |

Performance Rating

The Season 2 finale is very
much a Peta Wilson showcase, with Nikita being elevated improbably to centre stage in the
fate of Section One. She has the plum role opposite Surnow favourite Siān Phillips (Roy
of course gets his turn in Season 4), while Roy is left very much on the sidelines. In
this episode he gives an intelligently understated performance, since despite the
momentous goings-on that we, the audience, are aware of, Michael as yet knows nothing more
than the fact that Nikita is increasingly beyond his control. We wait with anticipation to
discover how he will react when he finds out the truth. |
