| Michael's POV Onscreen:
14 minutes |
Michael and Nikita are sent
undercover to make contact with a financier of terrorism, Abel Goellner. During their
first meeting a gun is put to Michaels head while Goellner asks Nikita if her
employer Michael is dispensable, and she makes sure his reprieve is a close call. One of
Goellners aides reveals to Nikita that he is an exiled Section operative, and asks
her to tell no-one but Operations. For reasons of his own (rivalry - the aide is
Madelines husband, presumed killed on a mission nine years earlier), Operations
needs to keep this a secret, and gives her special duties which are not revealed to
Michael. Michael takes this as official notification that she is no longer his
responsibility, and tells Nikita she will have to stop coming to him for advice. |

Roy manages to keep the
audience guessing as to Michaels reason for worrying about Nikita working directly
with Operations. Is it jealousy, fear for her safety without his protection, or even some
concern for his own status? A bit of everything you decide in what proportion. Not
a lot of screen time for Roy but he does well with what he has, convincing us in his
undercover mode with a whole new set of technical jargon thrown in for good measure. The
expression in his voice and eyes on the "Im no longer your mentor" line is
one of the classic poignant Im losing you moments. |
