The close relationship between
Jurgen and Nikita causes Michaels jealousy to grow, but he is still unable to
express his true feelings for Nikita, even when challenged by her. Section and Michael use
Nikitas relationship with Jurgen to break into Jurgens home computer, so
destroying the hold that he has over Section which gives him an unprecedented amount of
freedom. Jurgen knows his days in Section are now numbered, so when a device fails to
detonate remotely on a mission, he disables Michael with a pay-back shot in the leg and
commits suicide by detonating it manually. Michael confesses to Nikita that he misled her
about Jurgen, also revealing that Jurgen was his trainer in Section, but she doesnt
want to listen and walks away |

Payne didnt wear the wet-suit hood )
Listening in to Nikita and Jurgen about to make love and then telephoning her (on

"I was in the area, I thought
Id drop in to see how things were going."
"This is
never an easy job; its sometimes unbearable for all of us."
"It was never my
intention to hurt you."
"I had to keep my
feelings separate. Its how I live my life, Nikita, split in two." |

The arc closes with a good,
longer-than-average episode for Roy, offering the full gamut of Michael: mission man,
disappointed and jealous lover, a man afraid of being caught up in an emotional
entanglement, we get the lot. He copes admirably with the whole range, so that we feel
every pang of jealousy, every flash of anger at the stupid blonde hes fallen for,
and poignantly, his respect for Jurgen. Although the threat of Jurgen has been removed,
the events of the arc seem to set the tone for Roys performance for the rest of the
season; compared with season one his step has less of a swagger, his voice is less
animated, he has lost a little of his quiet assurance. |
