CONTACT, L'Encyclopédie de la création

CONTACT is a multi-media "living encyclopaedia" about some of Quebec's leading thinkers and creators in various disciplines.  It was originally conceived by Stéphan Bureau in 1990 as a documentary series about writers, and ran for 26 episodes over 3 years.  It was revived more than a decade later, and at this point has studied more than 40 subjects, ranging from chefs to cartoonists, by way of doctors and economists.

As well as the diversity of occupations of the subjects, Stéphan Bureau's interviews explore several universal themes comprising creation, life and death, the sacred, identity, happiness, love, time, society and failure.

Its style is "TV that takes its time", the intention being to be more reflective and more deeply researched than the current trend for throw-away news-based coverage. To this end, an extensive web-based file for each subject is painstakingly compiled with the help of researchers from Sherbrooke University.  Some of the episodes will be available on DVDs which may be purchased from the site.
