A Man and his Sin

Claude-Henri Grignon
(1894-1976) was born in Sainte-Adèle in the Laurentides region of Quebec. His father was
a country doctor, and he himself became a writer and journalist, publishing several
pamphlets and books, the most enduring being the novel Un homme et son péché (A
Man and his Sin). Since its first publication in 1933 it has been re-edited several times,
and rewritten for radio, television and the cinema. Most recently, it has been remade for
the big screen by Charles Binamé, starring Pierre Lebeau, Karine Vanasse, and Roy Dupuis
in the leading roles. This is a freely translated and abridged version of the 1968 revision of the novel. It is NOT the Binamé screenplay, although the film (due for release in Quebec in December 2002), is thought to be faithful to the book in many respects.
