The Red Carpet is rolled out for Les États-Unis d’Albert

The Imperial Cinema in Montreal was the site of the premiere last Tuesday of André Forcier’s Les États-Unis d’Albert. Most of the cast was there.  On the red carpet you could bump into Éric Bruneau, Roy Dupuis, Céline Bonnier, and Geneviève Brouillette. True to form. Marc Labrèche was conspicuous by his absence.

Before the show André Forcier insisted on reminding everyone how hard his 10th feature film had been to bring to term. Seven years in labour, in fact. He had to wait a long time for cash from Téléfilm Canada, and even had to mortgage his house to guarantee some of the financing. He had to turn to France and Switzerland to balance the budget. The distribution, which opens this Friday, will be very low-key. So, if you want to see it, make it quick, because I doubt if it will be on the big screens very long.
