Timekeeper - location shots by Alain Fortin

THE DOG

Row 1: Handlers - Vino with Ray Ducasse; with Ray's wife Josie; and with Alain.
Row 2: Vino with Craig, the only cast member allowed to get friendly with the dog; training for a jump scene.
Row 3: Vino the filmstar; the dummy dog used in shots with the wolves; Vino and his litter brother Shadow, brought along as an understudy.

Hey, King.  Hey, King. Hey, boy.  He made gentle noises with his lips.
The dog circled on his tether and paced and leapt once vicious and uncontrolled and fell back yanked by the reciprocal force of the leash.
His coat was black and dirty grey with a white underbody and his face was black with a narrow grey snout. The mean yellow of the cornea signalled wrath.

The boy stretched out his empty hand. The dog crept forward slightly. The boy crept forward slightly.
The dog both growled and sniffed.  The boy made gentle sounds.

The dog did growl no more and tentative and afraid with its legs set to spring away licked the offered hand and the sauce upon it. The assembly of men were quiet in the high evening light. The boy placed a chop upon his bent knee and the dog crept forward. The boy waited and the dog sprang forward and stole the chop and leapt away and ate with ravenous appetite [...]

The men were mostly quiet and parted away from the boy as he strode through their midst. The boy stooped and retrieved the bones he had separated from the meat. Then he walked on.
