These wonderful photos were provided by
Alain Fortin of Sept-Īles, near Port-Cartier where The Timekeeper
was filmed.
Alain is an old friend of dog trainer Raymond Ducasse, who had the
contract for the dog scenes.
In the story the
dog, King, belongs to the camp boss, Fisk, and although he is as |

fierce as his owner, the boy (Martin) is able to befriend |
him. When Martin is expelled from the camp and sets off back to
the town with the wild men, King goes with them, but is attacked by
wolves.
Row 1: Filming the scene where King is put down.
Row 2: Vino playing the injured dog. The blood is
simulated from food colouring and soggy bread.

Shoot the dog, Scully. You're
running out of time.
The man considered his choices there and the three fugitives stood upon
that plain and cast long shadows across the ground. The boy
squinted into the sun and waited and Grease tapped two rocks together to
make them sound and the rhythm he created was the rhythm of those posses
that had chased them down in another time and place. Scully grew
agitated with them both. He was angered by the silence of one man
and the uncanny racket of another.
Shoot that dog yourself, Scully said and he held out the shotgun to the
boy. The boy accepted it into his hands. He looked down upon the dog in
the throes of its suffering.
Shoot him, Grease said in a whispering voice. Yeah, Scully said. Shoot
that dog. Let's see what you're made of. Not the dog, Grease said
and Scully looked at him. Scully looked back at the boy and the
boy had levelled the shotgun in his direction.
Hey, Scully said. Shoot, Grease quietly pleaded.
