Synopsis

One of a pair of films dealing with the life story of Jacques Mesrine, France's public enemy No. 1 during the 1970s. After nearly two decades of legendary criminal feats - from multiple bank robberies to prison breaks - Mesrine was gunned down by the French police in Paris. L'Instinct de mort deals with Mesrine's time in Canada, where his partner in crime is Jean-Paul Mercier (Roy Dupuis).

L'Instinct de mort and L'Ennemi public n° 1 were filmed simultaneously during 2007, and regarded as a single work, Public Enemy Number One (Mesrine) for the purposes of awards, such as the Césars.
